A Swift Current native has earned another NCAA award.

Goaltender Joel Rumpel of the University of Wisconsin has been named Red Baron WCHA Rookie of the Week for January 17th.

Rumpel earned his first collegiate shutout with a 36-save, 4-0 victory against host Minnesota State on January 13th and then went on to stop 29 of 31 shots on goal in a 3-0 setback to the Mavericks on January 14th.  Over the two games, Rumpel stopped 65 of the 67 shots for a .970 saves percentage with four shutout periods.

Rumpel is now 7-5-2 with a 2.66 goals-against average, .915 save percentage and one shutout.

He is a former Midget AAA Home Hardware Legionnaire and played his junior hockey for Penticton in the BCHL.
