A return to their home field was just what the doctor ordered for the Saskatchewan Rush on Saturday night.

After raising their 2018 NLL Cup championship banner to the rafters at SaskTel Centre, the Rush proceeded to knock off the expansion San Diego Seals, 16-12, in their home opener.

Ben McIntosh led the Rush with five goals and nine points in the win, which was a nice rebound following their season-opening loss in New England last weekend.

"Tonight, we got some good looks and put the ball in the back of the net. You want those looks in the middle of the floor. We got more of those, got some hard picks, and we were able to generate those opportunities and capitalize on them," McIntosh told SaskRush.com after the game.

Matthew Dinsdale had a goal and six points for Saskatchewan, while Jeff Shattler scored four times and finished with five points. Mark Matthews had two goals and five points, and Curtis Knight also finished with five points (1G, 5A).

The game was back-and-forth throughout, but the Rush found a way to be one step ahead of the Seals all night.

McIntosh had a hat trick in the first period, while Jordi Jones-Smith, Ryan Keenan and Dinsdale also found the back of the net in the opening period to make it 6-5 for Saskatchewan after one.

The Rush and Seals continued to trade goals in the second period with Saskatchewan extending their lead to 10-8 heading into the halftime.

Saskatchewan picked up three straight goals to open the second half with Shattler finding the back of the net twice and McIntosh picking up his fourth of the game. That gave the Rush a 13-10 lead heading into the fourth.

Shattler scored his fourth, while McIntosh picked up his fifth and Connor Robinson also scored for Saskatchewan in the fourth quarter to help them seal the four-goal win.

Evan Kirk made 37 saves to backstop the Rush to the victory in goal. Saskatchewan outshot San Diego 63-49 in the win.

The Rush won the loose-ball battle 78-64 and went 2-for-2 on the power play. San Diego was also deadly with the man advantage, finishing the game 5-for-6 on the power play.

Saskatchewan is back in action on Saturday in Vancouver when they take on the Warriors.
