Swift Current will play host to another big curling event next season.

The Swift Current Curling Club has announced they will host the 2015 Viterra Southern Women's Curling Playdowns January 8th to 11th at the curling side of the Credit Union iplex.

"This is an open competition, so there could be as many as 12 teams competing, and then there will be four spots that come out of that championship that will go on to provincials," said Curling Club President Karen Biese.

The four qualifiers from playdowns will go to the Viterra Scotties in Assiniboia and the winner there will represent Saskatchewan at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts next February in Moose Jaw.

"It will be great curling, some of the best women's curling teams in the province will be there," Biese added. "Women's curling has always been very popular in Swift Current, and we encourage everybody to save the dates and come on out and watch some great curling."

Swift Current has hosted other major women's curling events in recent years, including the 2009 SaskPower Scotties and the 2010 Ford World Women's Curling Championships.
