Reece Scarlett

Swift Current Broncos Defenseman Reece Scarlett is leaving Tuesday for NHL camp in New Jersey.

The 18-year-old was selected by the Devils in the sixth round of this summer's NHL Entry Draft.

He was in New Jersey over the summer for the Devils development camp in the summer.

"Just hoping to build on that and have a good showing," Scarlett said.

"I want to make it as hard as possible on the coaching staff to send me home."

The Devils aren't playing any rookie games so Scarlett is hoping to earn himself a spot in a full roster pre-season contest.

He had 6 goals and 24 points in his second season with Swift Current last year.

Fellow Broncos Richard Nedomlel and Adam Lowry are already in Detroit's and Winnipeg's camps respectively. Lowry and the Jets play their first pre-season game since the team returned to Manitoba tonight at the young stars tournament in Penticton, BC.
