Joona Kiviniemi one-timed in the overtime winner with 3.4 seconds left in the game as the Swift Current Broncos came back from down 4-2 to beat Saskatoon 5-4 tonight.

It was the second straight road comeback for the Broncos, but this time they were able to pull out the victory.

Last week in Medicine Hat the Broncos erased a 3-0 deficit before giving up the winning goal in the last minute of regulation. This time they followed through and will ride a happy bus back to Swift Current.

"We have a lot of young guys in the room so it's great to see them push games when we're down," said Broncos captain Tanner Nagel. "That's what we're trying to teach them that you have to play hard to the bitter end and you never know what's going to happen."

Nagel was a big part of it scoring twice including the goal midway through the third period that seemed to ignite the comeback. Swift Current was sagging offensively from late in the second period through the opening stages of the third. That's when Nagel caught a long pass from Connor Horning and got behind Saskatoon's defenders for a huge power play goal.

The Broncos started to come with pace and determination before Owen Blocker scored the equalizer with goaltender Riley Lamb on the bench for the extra attacker. Blocker also drew the power play Nagel scored on and had one of his better games of the season.

Kiviniemi's goal came after a wide-open overtime with great chances for both teams. Alex Moar was able to hold the puck in after Kiviniemi missed the net on his first shot attempt and get it quickly across for another chance that the young Finn ripped home for his team leading 12th goal of the season.

Lamb was another major factor in the win stopping 48 of the 52 Saskatoon shots he faced in what was a third straight impressive performance since joining the Broncos as a free agent. He has a 0.939 save percentage and two wins in three games since coming to Swift Current from the SJHL this season.

"It's a big bounce back game for us after last night," Nagel said of the 5-2 loss on Friday in Swift Current. "That's what we stressed in the room. We knew we had to come in and play hard. This was a big win for us."

Swift Current wasn't happy with their performance against the Blades at home and heard it from their coach. He was pleased they found a way to respond.

"Anytime you win it's a good day," said Broncos Head Coach/Director of Hockey Operations Dean Brockman. "They out-chanced us and had a lot of shots, but I give our guys a lot of credit. We challenged them after last night's game to be better and work hard and they did. That's what you do when you work hard. You find ways to get success."

The Blades didn't wait long to get on the board as the red hot Gary Haden snuck behind Swift Current's D and struck for his fifth goal of the weekend only 38 seconds.

Nagel answered back for the Broncos as he converted the rebound of a Christien Riemer shot for his second goal fo the weekend tying the game right back up. An even first period continued with good chances at both sides until Saskatoon pulled ahead late on a Dawson Davidson power play goal.

Ethan O'Rourke drew Swift Current even again early in the second period at the end of another Blades power play. O'Rourke blocked a shot and broke free of Kyle Crnkovic to score Swift Current's first shorthanded goal fo the season and extend his goal scoring streak to four games.

Another Broncos penalty came back to haunt them a few minutes later as Eric Florchuk was able to push a puck through the Swift Current crease and in for a 3-2 Blades lead. Cyle McNabb made it 4-2 as he deflected a Brandon Schuldhaus point shot late in the period.

The Broncos couldn't seem to get their offence going despite power play chances late in the second and early in the third period. They went over ten minutes of the final frame without a shot before finally breaking through with Nagel's power play goal on the way to the comeback win.

This was Swift Current's first win in six tries against the Blades this season and Brockman's first win as a coach against his old team.

Horning and Moar each had two assists on the night, while Kivienimi both scored the winner and set up the tying goal.

THe Broncos were without both Matthew Stanley and Carter Chorney due to the flu. Ben King remains out with a long term injury.

Next action for the Broncos is Wednesday at home against Kaden Elder and the Calgary Hitmen.
