The Swift Current Comp. Colts senior boys volleyball team hosts their home tournament this weekend.

They welcome eight other teams starting with a match against Moose Jaw Peacock on Friday at 2:30pm.

It's been a good start to the season for the Colts with a victory in a 12-team event in Lumsden and a consolation final victory at the 24-team tournament in Saskatoon.

In total they have a 16-2 record.

Dan Andrie Interview"Our team is really good at being competitive not only on the floor with any team that we match up with," said Coach Dan Andrie. "But also in practice. The guys are willing to learn and they are learning as they move along which is always nice to see."

He has focuses heavily on two elements of their game.

"Keys to our early success are passing and serving," Andrie said. "It's two things I preach a lot in practice. When we pass and we serve well it's very tough to beat us because we have a lot of guys who can hit a ball. Also our serving causes the team we play against to not be able to hit that solid pass."

The tournament this weekend should provide the Cotls with some quality competition.

"It's going to be a competitive tournament for sure," Andrie added. "There's going to be a variety of teams here. Even if we have some weaker teams and some stronger teams, the way we set up the tournament we have those strong teams playing each other a lot."

The teams in the tournament include the likes of Moose Jaw Central, North Battleford, Caronport, Mossbank, Kipling and Medicine Hat Crescent Heights.

You can check out the gold medal match on Saturday at 4:30pm in the Comp gym.
