NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs

Maple Creek's Zack Smith and the Ottawa Senators will be the visitors on Thursday when they play the New York Rangers in the first Game 7 of any sport at Madison Square Garden in 17 years.

The East Divisions top-seeded Rangers staved off elimination with a 3-2 victory in Ottawa last night.

Derek Stepan had a goal and two assists in New York's three-goal second period.

Former Bronco Michal Rozsival and the Phoenix Coyotes have won their first playoff series since the franchise left Winnipeg in 1996.

Mike Smith made 39 saves as Phoenix scored three times in the third period to beat the Chicago Blackhawks 4-0.

It was the only game of the six game series that didn't go to overtime.

Phoenix will play Nashville in the Western Conference semifinal.
