Following a tie in their opener last night, the Home Hardware Midget AAA Legionnaires earned their first win of the Mac's Tournament this morning.

The Legionnaires piled on the Brampton 45's in a 10-1 win.

Swift led 3-0 after the first on goals from a trio of defencemen.

Kersey Reich ripped the first one home on the powerplay, before Hunter Larocque added to the lead even-strength just 29 seconds later.

Hendrik De Klerk gave the Legionnaires a three-goal lead before the first intermission on the second PP marker of the opening frame.

Into the second, Brampton scored their lone goal two-and-a-half minutes in to cut the lead to 3-1, but Swift Current piled another three goals in the back of the net to push the lead to five.

Mason Strutt (PP), Rhett Evjen (ES), and Reed Jacobson (PP) all scored in the final eight minutes of the second for the 6-1 lead.

The Legionnaires collectively slammed their foot on the gas coming out of the second intermission, with a pair of goals in the first four minutes of the third period.

Both even-strength, Strutt put home his second of the game, while Christian Albertson scored his second of the tourney.

Jacobson (PP) and Evjen both scored in the final three minutes to push the goal-total to double digits in the win.

"I thought it was a more complete 60 minutes with our puck management - I thought that was the difference," said Legionnaires head coach Darren Evjen. "We didn't give them any life in the third. We played pretty consistent all the way through, and we just kept our discipline down, which we've done for two days now. It's been a real key for us being successful here."

Meanwhile, at the other end, Swift Current thrived on the man-advantage to the tune of a 5-for-9 rate on the power play.

Having seven different goal-scorers in the win also aids in the future success, as Evjen notes it does wonders for a team's confidence up and down the lineup.

"You get a game like that where everybody chips in, everybody feels good about their game. Going forward, everybody's got a little bit more air in their lungs because of it. It's a good thing."

Jacob Herman recorded the 16-save win for the Legionnaires, spelling two-straight solid performances from the team's backstops.

"It's nice when you've got both guys who go in there and do a good job - it's a real key," explained Evjen. "To win this tournament, you've got to have real good goaltending, and we've had that. We've just got to keep moving forward with it."

The Legionnaires improve to 1-0-1 through two of four round-robin games. Swift plays their third in three days Friday evening, when they take on the hometown Calgary Midget Flames at 5:15 p.m. Sask time from Father David Bauer Arena.

"I think the key is just us - making sure we're playing our way. From what I know, and what people have told me, they've got four good lines, and their D might be the place where you can get an advantage," said Evjen. "We're going to have to make sure we do more of the same. Just make sure we manage the puck in the neutral zone, and get the pucks in, get pucks around the net, and create as much as we can."
