The Swift Current Comprehensive High School Ardens' dynasty in the Moose Jaw High School Girls Soccer League continued on Tuesday.

The Ardens captured their seventh straight league title with a 6-0 win over the Weyburn Eagles at Moose Jaw's Sunningdale Soccer Field.

“Winning never gets old, it's always good,” said Ardens head coach Dale Perry.

Swift Current scored three times in the first half and then added three more in the second half to cruise to their ninth league title in the past ten seasons and tenth overall.

Each championship team brings something different to the table and that's the case for the Ardens this season as Perry pointed to their balanced attack for being the source of their success.

“We're really strong at the back end, we gave up one goal for the entire season; we score a lot from the front; and our inside mids are really strong and our outside mids are good and can finish,” said Perry.

Jade Addai had a hat trick in the win for the Ardens, while Britt Lamontagne, Jessica Warren and Aleah Nickel potted the other markers.

“We started really strong, we played really well and we didn't get rewarded for our hard work early as their keeper made some really nice saves, so it took a long time to get that first goal,” said Perry.  “After we got that first goal, we kind of took our foot off the gas for a while and then with five-to-ten minutes left they got it back and carried that into the second half.”

Weyburn finished in third place in the regular season and then battled their way through the playoffs, beating Peacock in the quarterfinals and Central in the semifinals to advance to the final.

Coming away with a second place finish in the league is something that they're very proud of.

“The girls played well, Swift Current is a good team and deserved the championship, but our girls played hard, had a good year and can't be disappointed about placing second,” said Weyburn coach Stu McLeod.

“They've grown together as a group, they've really grown from the beginning of the year and shown good improvement.”

The focus for both teams now shifts over to regionals as Swift Current heads to Yorkton for the 3A girls regional tournament.  They will play either Estevan or Yorkton Regional in the final on Saturday.

The Ardens are hosting provincials this year and Perry likes his team's chances on their home turf.

“The first game is always really hard at 3A provincials, you're playing a super good team for sure,” he said.  “It will be a battle and we'll go out there and give it our best.”
