Norwegian goaltender Steffen Søberg is preparing himself to start his North American hockey career in Swift Current.

The Broncos drafted the Washington Capitals prospect sixth overall in yesterday's CHL Import Draft.

Søberg says the Capitals want him to play in Major Junior so they can keep a close eye on him. Washington intends to send their goalie coach to work with him several times throughout the season.

Søberg admits moving away from home for the first time will be an adjustment for him, especially when he is headed across the country. He believes it will be a good experience and help prepare him for NHL life.

Washinton drafted Soberg in the fourth round of this year's NHL draft. He says the pick was a validation of the direction he has been going in his career so far.

Søberg describes himself as a small goalie who uses his reflexes to stop pucks. He was named rookie of the year in Norway's Get-ligaen (division 1 men's league) and is the first Norwegian goalie drafted by an NHL team.

He represented his country at both the World Juniors and U18 last season. Søberg admits the lopsided losses for Norway could be mentally challenging. He would face 50 to 60 shots a game but still managed to win player of the game four times at the U18 event and maintain a 0.931 save percentage.
