Shaunavon's Kole Lind has been selected by the Vancouver Canucks with the 33rd overall pick in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft in Chicago.

Lind enjoyed a breakout season with the Kelowna Rockets in 2016-17, putting up 30 goals and 87 points and more than doubling his 2015-16 point totals.

In 17 playoff games the 6-foot-1 forward had six goals and six assists.

Lind was the second player selected Saturday as rounds two through seven wrapped up. He said while not going in the first round was a "tough pill to swallow," he was happy not to have to sit around long Saturday morning before hearing his name called.

"I definitely took some time thinking last night, and it's not really where you go it's what happens after," Lind said. "It's always nice to have something on your resume, but it's what you do after that I'm more worried about. I'm excited to be part of the Canucks and I'm excited for the future."

British Columbia is already a home for Lind, where he lights the lamp regularly for the Rockets.

"It's one of the most beautiful cities in Canada I can say for myself," he said. "It's a beautiful province."

Lind, who also plays some senior baseball with Shaunavon, headed down Wednesday to catch a Chicago Cubs game at Wrigley Field and toured around town Thursday.

He said he wasn't nervous before going, but that when he was in Chicago and the draft was approaching, things changed a little.

"I didn't really feel anything prior to, but once I got into Chicago and you start seeing all the scouts and all the GMs and everyone walks around and all the hotels and all the streets down here, it definitely gets to you. And once you show up there you definitely start sweating a lot," he said.

There promises to be a lot more sweat in the forecast as Lind forges his role in a Canucks organization with a strong group of prospects.
