The lack of emergency lighting Saturday night during a power outage at the Credit Union iplex was an issue at last night's City Council meeting.

Saturday's power outage exposed a problem at the newly-renovated Credit Union iplex.  The lack of emergency lighting was brought to the attention of the City at last night's council meeting.

Director of Recreation and Parks, Dean Robson was asked about the issue.  "As I understand it, we have two systems in there.  One is the old system, which has been there a number of years.  The old emergency lighting came on as well, but wasn't as bright as the new expansion emergency lighting when we did the expansion.  Both systems are tested.  Those areas will be addressed."

He says the solution may be a simple one.  "It may be as simple as replacing all the batteries on the circuit line for the old lights over the arena, but we take this very seriously, not only, with a World Curling event coming up, but for any event."

Robson adds that it may be part of upcoming budget talks.
