A balanced attack from the Swift Current Comp Colts football team (3-3) resulted in a 44-0 win against the Estevan Elecs (0-6) at Colts Field.

The regular season finale saw a bit of a slow start for the Colts however, as the home side led just 1-0 after the first quarter.

Into the second, however, the special teams unit got the momentum building, as Nic Bachiu took advantage of dominant punt-return blocking for a 53-yard touchdown.

"It's funny - when you execute, things work," laughed Colts head coach Derek Murdoch after the slow start. "Yeah we stuck with it, and we hit some big plays."

Capping off the half, Parker Strojwas scored on one of those aforementioned big plays, running virtually - if not literally - untouched for an 85-yard rushing touchdown.

The ground game was certainly the most solid aspect of the offense in the win, as just 41 seconds into the second half, Bachiu found the end zone once again with a 70-yard rush.

Another Bachiu punt-return for a major to close the third quarter put the game further out of reach, as the Colts led 29-0 heading into the fourth quarter.

A pair of Karson Stubbins, and Jordan Lamontagne touchdowns, and Ethan Kurtz converts rounded out the scoring for the Colts and the game.

All in all, Swift Current ran the ball 21 times for 288 yards - Strojwas led the team with 117 yards on 8 carries.

Quarterback Austin Beverly-Collins needed just 60 yards passing on the day, completing 6 of 13 attempts.

Giving up zero points, the defense was stout against the Elecs, forcing a fumble and grabbing three interceptions as well.

Despite the 44-point effort though, the Colts head coach still wants to fine-tune the offense ahead of a quarter-final playoff matchup with Weyburn (3-3).

"We've got to be able to run the ball up the middle. We had lots of success going outside, but we had a little bit of trouble going in," said Murdoch. "We're going to make sure that we get that straightened out, because we want to be balanced - not just running and passing, but where we run the ball too."

The Swift Current Comp Colts and Weyburn Eagles kick off Saturday, October 14 at 1 p.m. at Colts Field.

The two teams met in the season opener on September 9 in Weyburn, with Swift Current winning 39-14.
