Dianne Sletten introduced to the media

Dianne Sletten was one of the over 100 concerned fans sitting in the audience this February as the Swift Current Broncos presented their Strategic Management Framework.

"It was just really good to hear them talk about where they're headed." Sletten said. "That was exciting to me. I originally thought I might sign up to be part of one of the (profit and position management) teams."

Two months later Sletten is the new Assistant General Manager and Director of Business Operations of the hockey club. A long time season ticket holder, shecalls it her"dream job." 

Sletten recently worked on many similar themes as Regional Project Lead for the Southwest Enterprise Region.

"A whole new government structure, strategic planning, the building of the partnerships," Sletten said. "I managed the team initiative there. That's exactly what this position kind of going forward is looking at. Doing all of that community engagement and implementing that strategic framework that the board has worked so hard to get in place. I just thought it was a natural fit."

Sletten is from Prince Albert but has worked in the southwest for 25 years. She first moved here to work in the news and sports department for CKSW radio. Highlights of her time behind the mic included nterviewing Broncos Hall of Famer Joe Sakic and legendary broadcaster Don Cherry.

Sletten has also worked in sales, program development and project management. She has a Diploma in Communications and training in Business Retention and Expansion, Cluster Development, Conflict Resolution, Project Management and Leadership.

"We had 45-50 applicants," said Broncos Coach and General Manager Mark Lamb. "As we got into it a lot more the skill set that Dianne brings it was unbelievable how it started to fit. She has experience in this community... for 25 years (she's) been around this community doing business. She has a lot of contacts, knows a lot of people, knows a lot about this community and how it runs."

Sletten also believes a working understanding of the southwest will prove beneficial.

"I can start right into it because I do have the background," Sletten said. "I do have many relationships across the southwest that I've already built and worked on different partnerships and initiatives with a number of different people. I'm just kind of hitting the ground running. I do have to get caught up to speed with where things are operationally with the organization, but I don't have to build those relationships as much."

Sletten's lack of sports management education or experience didn't bother the Broncos.

"That wasn't a concern at all," Lamb said. "It's understanding the business, it's understanding the people, it's communicating... I think we're very lucky. It was like we put the (strategic framework) plan together and this was the person who should be running the plan."

Sletten replaces Jordan Wall who moved to a job with the CFL's Saskatchewan Roughriders.
