A late kneeing penalty to Ryan Getzlaf gave Slovakia a powerplay with less than 3 minutes left in the game and they made no mistake scoring off the draw to take a 4-3 lead that they would not relinquish.
Canadian defenceman Marc Methot was not in the line-up.
He was serving a one-game suspension.
