Two local products and the University of Calgary Dinos take their first run at the CIS Women's hockey championship this weekend.

Shaunavon hockey legend Hayley Wickenheiser and former Diamond Energy Wildcat Jenna Smith helped take Calgary to a Canada West championship.

Smith thinks it will give them some momentum this weekend.

“I know we're in a tough pool but, I think we're all pretty confident after winning that title and hopefully that we'll carry on.”

Smith says it helps playing with a Canadian hockey star like Wickenheiser.

“She teaches you a lot. She definitely helps you when you're stressed out or when you're in a tough situation or a close game. She just know exactly what to say.”

The Dinos won't have it easy as they start their round robin against defending champion McGill tonight at 8pm.
