It was a Saturday night that former Swift Current Bronco and Maple Creek-native Zack Smith won't soon forget.

Playing in his fifth-ever NHL game, Smith scored short-handed to open the scoring for the Ottawa Senators in Montreal.

On a pass from Senators' Captain Daniel Alfredsson, Smith sped in on a partial short-handed breakaway, and put a shot over the blocker of Habs' Goaltender Carey Price.

"I didn't think it went in... I thought it hit the crossbar and stayed out at first," commented Smith post-game, after catching a flight to Boston.

Smith played with the Bantam AA Kabos Raiders and Home Hardware AAA Midget Legionnaires.  He then played three seasons with the Broncos before signing a contract with the Ottawa Senators.  He has spent the majority of the past two seasons in Binghamton of the AHL.
