After 12 seasons in the NHL, former Swift Current Bronco Brent Sopel is heading to Russia.

The defenseman signed a two-year contract with Metallurg Novokuznetsk of the KHL.

 

Sopel, who spent three seasons with the Broncos from 1994 to 1997, scored two goals and five assists in 71 games with Atlanta and Montreal last season.

Meanwhile, Broncos' European forward Stepan Novotny will be playing with Lev Poprad in Slovakia next season, after signing a two-year contract with the KHL club. He scored 22 goals and 40 points with the Broncos last season.
