Southwest track and field athletes continued their success after the high school season.

Swift Current's Scott Joseph and Kalea Sauder, as well as Leader's Jackson Sitter and Reed Sitter were competing with Team Sask at the Western Canadian Tri-Province Championship in Sherwood Park, Alberta at the end of July.

Joseph shone, as he's known to do, setting a U18 boys long jump record en route to gold in the event. The previous mark of 6.24m from 2014 was obliterated by Joseph with a jump of 6.63m.

The soon-to-be grade 12 Joseph also earned a silver medal in triple jump with an even mark of 14 metres.

A time of 23.36 seconds gifted Joseph a fifth-place finish in the 200m, his best finish on the track.

Sauder placed fifth in the U18 girls 4x100m relay with a time of 54.18 seconds, finished seventh in long jump with a distance of 5.05m, and a pair of 12th-place results in the 100m Hurdles (17.47 seconds) and 100m (13.71 seconds).

Jackson, the elder of the two Sitters, was battling with Joseph in the U18 boys division, similar to his time in the Junior Boys category at SWAC meets and SHSAA Provincials.

He soared 12.33m in triple jump for a fifth-place finish, and narrowly missed the six-metre-mark (5.99m) in long jump, placing sixth.

Joseph, Sauder, and Sitter all contributed to a U18 team title for Team Sask.

Meanwhile Reed Sitter was the lone U16 athlete from the region, competing in a trio of throwing events.

He finished seventh in boys javelin (27.96m), tenth in discus (25.21m), and tenth in shot put (10.68m).
