A trio with ties to the southwest will be representing the SJHL at the annual SJHL-MJHL Showcase next week.

Former Home Hardware Midget AAA Legionnaires defencemen Cody Spagrud and Gage Misskey, along with Bracken native Doug Johnson were named to the showcase rosters.

All three are on Team Kunitz - one of three SJHL squads representing the league over the two-day event, which runs January 14-15 in Regina

Spagrud, from Gull Lake, is the captain of the Battlefords North Stars, and is his final season of a stellar four-year Junior career.

This season, the blueliner has seven goals and 25 points in 36 games, and has an even 100 in the regular season for his career.

Spagrud was named to the SJHL All-Rookie Team in the 2015-16 season, and was also a league champion with the North Stars in the 2016-17 season.

He'll also get to suit up with the North Stars in his hometown later that week, when Battlefords takes on the Notre Dame Hounds on January 19, as part of 'Hockey Day in Saskatchewan'.

Misskey, a Melfort product, is a former Legionnaires captain, having played three full seasons in the southwest.

Also in his 20-year-old season, Misskey is in the midst of by-far his best Junior A season.

On the backend for the Nipawin Hawks, Misskey has two goals and 19 points in 40 games.

In the two years prior to this season, Misskey had a combined 19 points in 111 games split between the AJHL's Drumheller Dragons and SJHL's Hawks.

Meanwhile, Johnson is behind the bench for his ninth season with the SJHL's defending-champion Nipawin Hawks.

The southwest product is also the SJHL's reigning coach of the year, and has the Hawks currently atop the league standings once again.

The Johnson-led Nipawin Hawks are first in the Sherwood Division and SJHL with a 27-11-1-1 record.
