The Swift Current Comp Senior Ardens volleyball team recorded their second-straight strong showing to start the 2019 season over the weekend.

After a third-place finish among 32 teams at a U of R-based tourney the previous weekend, the Senior Ardens were back in the provincial capital at the 16-team Regina Mega Volley Tournament, where they earned silver.

Swift Current executed a spotless round robin, winning all six of their sets to finish in first in the pool:

  • Won 25-19, 25-22 over Moose Jaw Central
  • Won 25-15, 25-14 over Regina Martin
  • Won 25-18, 25-18 over Regina Riffel

The re-pool saw two wins and a split, again finishing first in the stage:

  • Won 25-17, 25-8 over Regina Thom
  • Won 25-21, 25-23 over Regina O'Neill
  • Split 20-25, 25-14 with Lumsden

The quarter final saw a straight-set win over Winston Knoll (25-15, 25-23), while the semis brought a quick two-set W (25-14, 25-23) over Regina LeBoldus.

Into the finals, the undefeated Ardens held the title no longer. Taking on Balgonie Greenall, the Ardens took the first set 25-19, but dropped the second (20-25), and the third (12-15) to finish in second place.

Mackenzie McIntyre was named the MVP of the final, and also a tournament all-star. Brooklyn Choo-Foo also earned the tournament all-star honour.
