It was the Mark Stone show as Canada kicked off its quest for gold.

The WHL's leading scorer picked up the hat trick as Canada pounded Finland 8-1 in the opener of the World Junior Hockey Championships at Rexall Place in Edmonton Monday.

Jonathan Huberdeau of the Saint John Sea Dogs also had a big game with a goal and four assists.

However, the big win came at a huge cost for Canada, as they lost returning forward Devante Smith-Pelley to a broken foot for the rest of the tournament.

Canada takes on the Czech Republic in its next round-robin game Wednesday night in Edmonton, and you can hear it on the Eagle 94.1 FM
