The Great Plains College SunDogs athletics program held its year-end awards banquet March 21 at the Swift Current Campus gym.

Team MVP awards were given to Sloane Meyer (women’s volleyball), Dallin Martin (men’s volleyball), Tyson Dyck (men’s basketball), and Liz Zazalak (women’s basketball).

Leadership awards were handed out to Chyanne Ogle (women’s volleyball), Darby Zacharias (men’s volleyball), Kale Scherger (men’s basketball), and Jane Kennedy (women’s basketball).

“All of our student-athletes worked extremely hard this year and we always look forward to recognizing their efforts,” said athletics coordinator Mary Jane Benesh. “There were many highlights on the court this year and we’re looking forward to even more in 2012-13.”

The 2011-12 season saw the SunDogs win their second Prairie Athletic Conference provincial men’s volleyball championship, after also winning in 2009, and the return of women’s basketball after a two-season absence.
