Holt Howorko

The stars of the past will be watching the stars of tomorrow as the Swift Current Broncos hit the ice this weekend against Calgary and Red Deer.

It's alumni weekend for the Broncos with players from all eras attending the games and some functions throughout the weekend.

Broncos all time leading scorer Todd Holt is always happy to come back to his old stomping grounds.

"It's the camaraderie," Holt said. "It's about being with the boys again. It's seeing the guys who came after you and the guys who blazed the trail for you before."

"It's about doing something with the community, coming back and seeing all the people who sat in those seats each and every night. Cheered you on when you won and cheered you on when you lost."

Holt is pleased the Broncos are making a bigger effort to reach out to alumni in recent years.

"I really enjoy what the Broncos have been doing with the alumni lately," he said. "A lot more guys come back for the golf tournament in the summer. Each and every year they're throwing this alumni week. It's good to see the guys come back and give something back to the community. A lot of guys played pro for a number of years and they've got to remember where their roots are."

They will be having a scrimmage Saturday at 3pm and a skate with the Broncos on Sunday at noon. You can mingle with them in the lobby after Saturday's game.

It's also parents weekend and the players will get a chance to play in front of their visiting family.

The Broncos host Calgary Friday night with puck drop at 7:05 from the Credit Union iPlex. You can hear the game on The Eagle 94.1
