16 of the top snooker players in the province were in Swift Current this weekend for the provincial championships at the Stockade Building.

Terry Lovestone of Swift Current finished first in the tournament ahead of fellow Swift Current player Mike Peters. Darryl Waters of Saskatoon finished third and Fabian Lewiston of Regina was fourth.

"We had a great turnout, everybody enjoyed it, and we had great sponsors," said Lovestone, who also organized the event. "A real special thanks to our sponsors, it was really nice of them to help us out, without them, it wouldn't have happened, and thank you to the people who came out to watch."

Lovestone adds Swift Current was very well-represented in the tournament with about five or six players, and says interest in snooker is starting to build in the city.

"Down east in Ontario it's very strong, and snooker is on its way back now, hopefully, and venues like that that went on this weekend definitely helps make the sport grow," he said.

Lovestone adds those wanting to give snooker a try can get in touch with him or Dick Lee at Lucky Charlie's in Swift Current.
