Swift Current teams were dominant hosts at the 17th Soccerfest over the weekend.

There were 34 teams from across western Canada at the event and local teams kept two gold medals in the city. The Under 18 United Boys finished first with wins over Kindersley and Regina UTC

"They played really well, " said coach Steve Kritzer. "UTC was a very aggressive team. We came out in the second game against them and really played a classy game... a proud moment for us. We have a few graduating players who won't have another Soccerfest so it was great."

Will the U18s be provincial contenders?

"It's the second tournament we've been in and they've pulled golds in both of them," Kritzer said. "But it's a long way down the road."

The Under 12 Boys United Red also won gold in what was apparently a well received event.

"The Soccerfest committee really put on a great show," Kritzer said. "We heard a lot of positive feedback from out of town teams. One team from Brandon said this was the best tournament they'd been to."
