A trio of Swift Current Minor Baseball players will be Ontario-bound at the end of August for Baseball Canada's 15U Boys' Ray Carter Cup.

Ethan Murdoch and Kelsey Rokochy of the Bantam AAA 57's and Brody Alexandre of the Midget AAA 57's cracked the Team Sask roster for the tournament.

The 15-year-old Murdoch last cracked a provincial team in 2016 when he and Team Sask placed fourth at 13U Nationals, getting named the top catcher of the tournament.

"I was pretty excited, I've done it before, but every time reminds me how awesome of an experience it is," said Murdoch. "It's great that I have the opportunity and the people here to help me out and get there. Every time it's still such a great feeling."

This time around, Murdoch won't be bolstered behind the plate, instead spending time between both first base and as a pitcher at the 15U level.

Regardless of the position, he says he's looking forward to bringing in his Team Sask experience as an asset.

"I hope I can continue to be like a big leader on the team, in the dugout being a good teammate, help everyone out, sort of just have good leadership on and off the field. I hope to build on relationships with people from other cities that I've met along the way," said Murdoch, admitting sometimes the scale of the tournament can add jitters to the mix.

"We just sort of have to pretend we're out on a Sunday just playing wiffle ball in the back yard. Everyone there is naturally very gifted, and it's really hard to stay calm, it's one of those big deals. But it's really just important to stay to our roots and do what we do."

This time around, Murdoch has a current and former teammate alongside him in the journey.

This is the first taste of Team Sask action for the 14-year-old Rokochy. He's listed as a pitcher and outfielder on the 15U roster.

"It's just pretty exciting to get to go play in (Ontario)," he said. "Like you've been working since you've been playing Mosquito, and you finally get to go and get recognized a little bit. It's just going to be a lot of fun meeting a lot of new people."

Rokochy has seen his game grow leaps and bounds the past 12 months to get him to this level - something he credits in large part to athletic diversity.

"Kind of just training all year - when you play a bunch of different sports it helps too, it's not just baseball that helps," he said. "You play hockey and work on your speed, you play volleyball and you get a vertical - all the sports kind of tie in to each other."

Aside from the obvious excitement of getting to compete against the rest of the best 15U players in the country, the opportunities the experience brings aren't lost on Rokochy.

"There's going to probably be people there watching, you know, just get your name out there a little bit for the future if you want to go to college or something like that. There's going to be people there watching, which will be good for the future," he said.

Meanwhile Alexandre, who was a part of the league-champion Bantam AAA 57's in 2017, fills one of two overage spots on the 15U roster.

Alexandre has previous provincial team experience, as well as an award as Baseball Saskatchewan's Minor Player of the Year in 2015.

The soon-to-be 16-year-old Swift Current Minor Baseball star will spend time at multiple positions and multiple provincial teams this month.

Logging time at third base and as a pitcher on the 15U squad, Alexandre will also go from one of the oldest to one of the youngest when he competes with 17U Team Sask at the Canada Cup.

Alexandre will play first base and third base for 17U Team Sask from August 8-12 at the 2018 Canada Cup in Moncton/Dieppe, New Brunswick.

The 15U Ray Carter Cup runs August 23-26 in Oshawa, Ontario.
