Homegrown talent Joel Rumpel will be headed across the Atlantic Ocean to continue his hockey career for the 2018-19 season.

The Swift Current-born goaltender signed with the UK Elite Ice Hockey League (EIHL)'s Braehead Clan, one of three Scottish-based teams in the top British league.

The 27-year-old Rumpel spent his 2017-18 season split between two ECHL clubs - he started the season making 20 appearances with the Wichita Thunder, ending the campaign with another 18 showings for the Utah Grizzlies.

Rumpel is a former Swift Current Midget AAA Legionnaire, who logged time in the BCHL after his Midget career, before posting some prominent stats at the University of Wisconsin.

Notably for Rumpel in his Junior season (2013-14), he was named a finalist for the Hobey Baker Award as the top men's hockey player in the NCAA.

Rumpel will now be Scotland-bound in the coming months to suit up with the purple and black of the Braehead Clan who finished last season with a 24-26-5-1 record, good for ninth place in the 12-team EIHL.
