After a postponed race in May due to attendance limitations, the Swift Current Stock Car Association is ready to start its engines this coming weekend.

Under new COVID-19 guidelines, 150 spectators are allowed onto the site, which means that for the first time this year, drivers and organizers will have a reason to rev.

Brody Crowe is a member of the board of directors for the SCSCA and one of the drivers.

"Friday night at 7 and Saturday night at 7. We are limited to 150 people, so first come first serve. With that first race getting cancelled everyone was kind of bummed out about it. But we're ready to go this time."

Crowe added that while some drivers have not confirmed due to the short notice and the distances to get to the track, they are expecting a decent turnout from Saskatchewan drivers, leaving plenty of vehicles for viewers to cheer for.

He says that they're eager to get started in front of fans again, and they are still going to be taking the extra precautions necessary due to the pandemic.

"For the drivers, we're going to take it a step above. We're going to wear masks around the drivers' meetings and stuff, We'll wear a mask if we leave the driver's pit area to go to another driver's pit area. We'll keep our six-foot distancing and we'll keep sanitizing as much as possible."

Gates for spectators open at 6 p.m. on Friday.
