A player from the Swift Current Colts football team will be at the Senior Bowl this weekend in Regina.

Austin Larochelle was selected for the 30th annual all-star game, which features the best grade 12 football players in the province.

Colts Football Coach Derek Murdoch says he was a big part of their team last season, and they were very happy to have him even while he pursued opportunities in midget hockey with the K-Motel Hurricanes.

"It's a really good example of how kids can do multiple sports, I think it's a pretty big misconception that if you play hockey, you can't play football and vice versa. Austin proved that it was more than possible in fact he was a leader on our football team and a was a big part of the Hurricanes this year," said Murdoch.

Murdoch adds the Senior Bowl could open some doors for Larochelle with university and junior football programs if he has a good weekend.

"There's some pretty tough competition to get on the team, and Austin went and obviously turned some heads. It's a proud day for him and it's going to be a good weekend. It's also pretty exciting for our football program to have another guy who gets to showcase his stuff on a provincial level," said Murdoch.

He'll play in the 12-man game on Monday afternoon.
