Baseball and Harv Martinez just simply go together in Swift Current.

Now, after over 20 years of being involved locally, Martinez has been inducted into Saskatchewan's Baseball Hall of Fame.  The induction ceremony was last weekend in North Battleford as Martinez was honoured for his contributions to Swift Current baseball.

Moving up to Canada from California 20 years ago was something Martinez thought would only be for one summer between teaching years.  "I just felt well, either I can go work for Del Monte for the summer canning tomatoes and peaches, or I can go up somewhere else and play baseball.  Luckily enough, I made the right decision and it's one that has certainly been the best one I've ever made, and have been very gracious for it."

Martinez credits a strong supporting cast for his success and was honoured just to receive the nomination.  "It's a nice honour and when I heard of the nomination, regardless of the induction taking place, I just felt honoured to have been nominated.  It was really nice just to be thought of."

Both the Swift Current Indians organization and the Waldeck School Grade 9 class put forth the nomination to Sask Baseball.
