Swift Current's Megan Rumpel credits her transition to the pentathlon with winning the University of Regina female rookie athlete of the year award.

Rumpel started as primary a high jump athlete before expanding to the multi-sport competition this year, “High jump was pretty good for me but then out of nowhere this pentathlon ended up going really well for me and I ended up getting third in Canwest which I don't think anyone expected. So that is what set me apart a little bit.”

She adds that she feels like she found her calling as an athlete, “At the beginning of the year I definetly didn't cause it was a lot of hard work and I was like why can't I be doing high jump or something, but it starts to grow on you, you start to love it a bit more, and it's just such a variety of things that you are doing so you never get bored really.”

Rumpel will compete in the junior and senior nationals this summer.

It's her last year of eligability in junior natinoals.
