The SWT Pee Wee Broncos celebrate after winning their home tournament in December

A stellar season came to a heartbreaking end for the SWT Pee Wee AA Broncos, after they fell 6-1 in Yorkton Tuesday night in the second game of the South Saskatchewan League Final.

The Terriers swept the best-of-three series against the Broncos, who hadn't lost in regulation in league play all season before losing the two games in the final.

"I think we played well in the series," said coach Darren Evjen. "They were two real close teams in the regular season, we beat them twice and tied twice, so we knew it was going to be a good series. I think as our hockey team went, we played well... probably the one thing we didn't do was score enough, but that was a credit to their goaltending. I thought that their goaltender was probably the best player between the two teams.

"You put yourself in a standard once you're done regular season, but on the same token, the playoffs are a whole different season," he added. "You can throw everything out the window when it gets to playoffs, and it's really about who's playing, and it's no different in any league."

Evjen says he was proud of how the players develeoped and conducted themselves throughout the year, and was pleased with the experience their first-year players gained.

"We actually had a fairly young team with seven first-years, and I think those players learned a lot from our leadership group this year in the second-year pee wees," he said. "We had great leadership in that room, how to treat young guys, how to be fair and how to push each other into playing better."

The Broncos also played in four tournaments, reaching the A Final in three of them, and they won their home tournament in December along with another tournament in Saskatoon.
