The Swift Current Broncos wrapped up training camp by cutting down the roster and holding their annual Black and White intrasquad game Sunday afternoon.

Justin Spagrud scored a late winner as Team Black won 3-1 over Team White.

Jay Merkley had the lone Team White goal.

"Felt pretty good about the game," Merkley said. "It was actually pretty fun. It was nice to see some of the younger guys. Some guys were really impressive."

"Our first rounders looked really good out there. I got a chance to play with Gawdin. He's a pretty incredible player I think he's gonna have a big impact on the team if he sticks around this year."

In general Merkely felt the young guys showed well over the four days of camp.

"They were giving our vets a pretty good challenge out there," he said. "There's some really skilled guys. There's a little bit of everything. There's some tough young guys too, there's some guys throwing the body around, the defence really surprised me in how good they were."

One of those impressive young players was Brandan Arnold who had an assist on Sunday and scored a few times in scrimmages over the week.

"I proved (my offensive side) at times today but there were other times I was sluggish," Arnold said. "I think I'm definitely ready."

He was trying to prove his smaller stature won't get in the way of a WHL career.

"Show a good impression," Arnold said. "Show that I'm not small and I can play at this level. There are things I could touch on and work on, but other than that it was a good weekend for me."

Brandon Sookro and Ty McLean had the other goals for Team Black.

McLean and Bobby Zinkan squared off in the game's lone fight.

"It was a real even game," said Broncos Coach/GM Mark Lamb. "I don't think anybody fell off. I think everybody looked in place out there and it was a good game."

The Broncos now cut the roster down further before their rookie game against Moose Jaw on Tuesday night.
