Quark Pitch VS Okotoks
Indians' pitcher Nelson Quark

The Swift Current Indians were unable to snap their early season losing streak over the weekend against the Okotoks Dawgs.

The Tribe and Dawgs met for a 2-game weekend series in Swift Current, with Okotoks winning both games 4-2.

On Saturday, the Tribe received a solid pitching performance from Nelson Quark, who went 7 innings, giving up 3 runs on 4 hits, but the offence was unable to get much going against the Dawgs.

Swift Current was held to just 3 hits all game, which came off the bats off Jose Rojas, Chad Schultz and Jake Garcia.

Trailing 2-0 in the bottom of the 5th inning, the Indians appeared to be building some momentum. After Kevin Czarnecki was retired for the first out of the inning, Schultz was hit by a pitch before, Jake Garcia hit a double to left field, putting runners on 2nd and 3rd with just 1 out. A Drew Brooks sacrifice fly scored Schultz, but that would be all for the Indians in the inning.

Okotoks was able get the 1 run right back in the top of the 6th restoring their 2 run lead.

Both teams scored a run in the 8th, as the Dawgs went on to win 4-2.

In the second game of the weekend series, the Tribe were able to jump out to a 1-0 lead in the 3rd, with a Schultz RBI single.

The score remained 1-0 till the bottom of the 8th, when the Indians tacked on another run with a Rojas solo home run.

In the top of the 9th, however, Swift Current was unable to close out the game.

Indians' starting pitcher Ryan Benitez went back out to the mound looking for the complete game shutout, but could not get the final out.

After giving up a double to start the inning, Benitez promptly retired the next 2 Okotok's batters, before running into trouble.

Benitez gave up a walk, then a RBI single cutting the Swift Current lead to 2-1, before surrendering another walk to load the bases.

With the bases loaded, Benitez walked in the tying run and was then pulled from the game in favour of Robbie DeVries.

DeVries was unable to keep the game tied though, he gave up a RBI single to the first batter he faced, and then hit the next batter, scoring another run.

Swift Current was unable to score in the bottom of the 9th, leading to their 6th straight loss.

The tribe will look to end the skid tomorrow night in Regina when they take on the Red Sox.
