Tribe VS Stoon
Swift Current Pitcher Colby DeVries pitched in relief of Aaron Godinez in last night's Indians' win

The Swift Current Indians now sit just 4 games back of the Edmonton Prospects for the first wild card spot and 3.5 games back of the Yorkton Cardinals for the second wild card, following a 13-3 victory over the Prospects yesterday, at Mitchell Field.

The Tribe got off to a hot start, scoring 4 runs in the 1st inning.

Jose Rojas and Kevin Czarnecki had RBI base hits, while Tyler Enns cashed in 2 runs with a single.

With the early 4-0 lead, Swift Current starting pitcher Aaron Godinez cruised through the first 5 innings of the game. In that span, the California native gave up just 1 hit, while at one point, sitting down 11 Prospect's batters in a row.

In the bottom of the 5th, the Tribe provided Godinez with even more run support. Nate Ackerman increased Swift Current's lead to 6-0 with a 2-run homerun, his 6th homerun of the season.

However, in the top of the 6th inning, Edmonton finally broke through against Godinez. The Prospects cashed in 2-runs, trimming the Swift Current lead to 6-2.

That was as close as Edmonton would get though, as the Tribe bounced back with 3-runs in the bottom half of the inning, blowing the game open.

Swift Current's own, Chad Schultz led off the inning with his first homerun of the season. Jose Rojas added his second RBI double of the game, and then later came into score on a wild pitch, extending Swift Current's lead to 9-2.

Even with the large lead, the Indians kept their foot on the gas, scoring 2 more runs in both the 7th and 8th innings.

The Tribe will have another chance to tighten the playoff race tonight, when they square off with Edmonton for the second time in as many nights at Mitchell Field.

First pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm.
