Indians Game 2c 570x427

The Swift Current Indians are back in the win column.

Last night, the Tribe defeated the Yorkton Cardinals 5-1 at Mitchell Field, putting an end to Swift Current's 2-game losing streak, and Yorkton's 2-game winning streak.

Starting pitcher Chris Haddeland returned to Swift Current in style, throwing 8 innings of 1-run ball, while only surrendering 4 hits and 2 walks, and striking out 10.

The McMinnville, Oregon native last suited up for the Tribe in 2013, when he posted a 5-3 record and a 2.05 ERA during the regular season.

At the plate, Indians' 3rd Baseman Kevin Czarnecki had a strong performance. Czarnecki reached base safely 3 times, twice on singles, and once on an error by Yorkton 1st Baseman Carter Hanford. Each time, Czarnecki came around to score.

Swift Current's local talent also made contributions to the victory. Reid Fritzke scored 1 run, while Chad Schultz drove in a run with an RBI single.

Yorkton pitcher Aaron Dick was tagged with the loss on the mound, giving up 4 runs, 3 of them earned, on 9 hits and 2 walks.

The Tribe will now have the day off today, before taking on the Regina Red Sox tomorrow night at Mitchell Field.

Swift Current's game against Regina will bring an end to the Tribe's 5-game season opening homestand, as they will head out to Weyburn on Friday.

First pitch for tomorrow night's game against the Red Sox is scheduled for 7:05pm.
