Indians Win

It was a weekend of mixed results for the Swift Current Indians in Edmonton.

The Tribe headed out west on Saturday, to play a pair of weekend games against the Prospects.

In game 1 Saturday night, the Indians got off to a good start, but were unable to sustain it.

Swift Current got on the board first, when Darren Kolk came into score on a wild pitch in the top of the 1st.

In the top of the 3rd, the Indians added another run to their lead, as Nate Ackerman also scored on a wild pitch.

The Tribe appeared to be on their way to a win after 4 and a half innings of play, having extended their lead to 6-0.

Heading to the bottom of the 5th inning, rain hit Edmonton, causing a delay in the game and a shift in momentum.

Following the delay, the Prospects put together 4 singles, a walk and a Swift Current error in the bottom of the inning, cutting the Swift Current lead to 6-5.

Edmonton would go on to tack on 3 more runs in the 7th and 8th innings, jumping out in front of the Tribe 11-6.

The Indians added 1 run in the 9th on a Casey Bang RBI groundout, but that would be as close as they would get, dropping game 1, 11-7.

Tribe reliever Curtis Bussard took the loss. He gave up 4 runs, 1 of them earned in 2 innings of work.

In the 2nd game of the weekend series, Swift Current once again jumped out in front early, but this time never looked back.

In the top of the 1st, the Tribe took a 1-0 lead on an Ackerman RBI fielder's choice groundout.

After Edmonton tied the game 1-1 in the 3rd, the Indians bounced right back, scoring 6 times in the top of the 4th, highlighted by a Kolk 3-run home run.

The Tribe continued to tack on runs the rest of the way. They added 1 in the 5th, 4 in the 6th, 1 in the 8th and 3 more in the 9th, en route to a 16-5 victory.

Along with his home run, Kolk also tripled, doubled and singled, as he hit for the cycle.

Justin Disbro picked up the victory on the mound, throwing 6 1/3 innings, surrendering 3 runs on 7 hits.
