In two seasons of ball, the Swift Current Yard Goats now have two Sask-Alta Baseball League championships.

Sunday in Gull Lake for the Final Days, the Yard Goats held off a late rally and beat the Cabri River Rats 7-4 to complete the two-peat.

An under-the-weather Shawn Lee threw all seven innings for Swift Current and hit a two-run bomb. In the top of the seventh the River Rats had the bases loaded with one out before Lee notched a strikeout and then ended the game inducing a pop out, which he caught.

Yard Goats outfielder Chris Dickie was really impressed with Lee's performance.

"It was one of those days where they battled back and had the bases loaded a couple times, but Shawn Lee was just absolutely battling out there," said Dickie. "He had the flu for 24 hours there, and he hadn't eaten for a day, so he really stepped up."

Kirk Haviland also hit a two-run home run for the Yard Goats in the final game.

The semifinal games were held earlier in the day also in Gull Lake. The Yard Goats advanced after beating the Richmound Rockets (last year's runner up, and 2015 champions) 10-0 on another strong start by Swift Current ace Taylor MacDonell. The River Rats beat the Burstall Braves 7-1 to clinch their trip to the finals.

Last year in the Yard Goats' first season as a team they lost out in provincials in Kindersley to the Carlyle Cardinals, who went on to win the tournament. But this year the Yard Goats will get another crack at them.

The teams are in Yorkton for Senior 'AA' Tier 2 provincials, which run August 11-13.

Joining the Yard Goats from Richmound are brothers Jamie Duchscherer and Jesse Duchscherer. Jamie is a lefty, and Dickie said that could be handy against Carlyle - which boasts a lefty-heavy lineup.

Swift Current is in a pool with Carlyle, Kindersley and Oxbow.
