It was a battle of the sexes at Swift Current's Soccerfest over the weekend.

Swift Current's very strong U14 Girls Division II club team played in the boys tournament at the event.

"We have a very strong team and we knew that," said Coach Dale Perry. "I said to everybody that we may not win the games that we played this weekend, but the teams that we play against are going to know that they were in a game. That's how strong the girls will play that physical and agressive style."

The girls were impressive losing 4-3 on a late goal to the Swift Current U14 boys, beating Weyburn's boys 1-0 and eventually falling 6-2 to Regina.

Perry says despite the challenging weather, it was a good weekend for local soccer clubs that included a gold medal for the U16 boys and a silver for the U14 boys.

Some matches were cancelled on Sunday due to the snow.
