Taylor Vause

Taylor Vause is the new Captain of the Swift Current Broncos.

He earned the honour thanks to a team vote.

"It's a pretty good feeling knowing that the guys in the room are chosing me," Vause said. "It is a responsibility in the dressing room... but for the most part for me it's going to be keep doing the same things that got me to this point."

Adam Lowry, Reece Scarlett, Brad Hoban and local product Andy Blanke will be alternates.

Vause currently leads the team in scoring at 26 points (11G, 15A) in 17 games played. He's ranked 5th overall in the league in scoring and 4th in power play points. The Calgary native has produced 133 points in 218 career games. He has only served a total of 59 minutes in penalties throughout his WHL career.

“His experience in the WHL, maturity and the way he’s led the team in the 1st month is a big indicator as to why he is a great fit for captain of the team”, states Bronco General Manager and Head Coach, Mark Lamb.  “What he brings to the team as they continue through their rebuilding stage and towards the playoffs is invaluable”.

Vause grew up a Broncos fan and his dad is a former Bronco.

"It's kind of a storybook ending," Vause said. "Building up to just playing in Swift Current was a pretty unlikely story."

"I'm just looking forward to being able to wear that C and hopefully make the team proud."

Swift Current's next action is tonight at home against the Prince Albert Raiders. You can hear the game live on The Eagle 94.1 FM starting at 6:30pm.
