Vause Reacts to Award

Taylor Vause is "very proud" to be the WHL Humanitarian of the Year.

The outgoing Broncos Captain received the honour yesterday at the league awards banquet.

He spent a lot of time working with kids, kids who - like him - live with diabetes.

“I think with the diabetes the good thing is that there's lots of people out there you can talk to and kind of hack out some details on how to deal with the disease a little better," Vause said. "If I can do that I really want to be part of that.”

Vause was thankful for all the kind words he received in testimonials from community leaders.

"That means a lot to me," Vause said. "I respect all those people who have given me the opportunity to help them out. I'm glad I've been able to help them and at the same time they are also great leaders in the community and I respect what they do."

The Calgary product finished his season with a stint on an amateur try out with the American Hockey League's Texas Stars. He was very happy with the experience and hopes it will turn into another professional opportunity for next season.

As for today's bantam draft, Vause has a message from the new Broncos...

"Overall it's been a great time and there are great people," Vause said. "I don't know if you would have that same experience in a bigger city where you get so many people that just really care for you at a one on one level. Swift Current is a great place to play."

He finished the season on a try out deal with Texas in the AHL. Vause hopes another pro opportunity will pop up this summer.

As for today's draft, Vause would tell any new Broncos that Swift Current is a great place to play and the people really treat them well.
