Zach Sawchenko made 35 saves as his Moose Jaw Warriors shut the Swift Current Broncos out 4-0 on Sunday.

It was the first game for both teams after their Christmas break.

Swift Current came out strong with lots of pressure in the first period. They fired 14 shots on net, hit a post and had a Tyler Steenbergen goal called back due to an early whistle.

"The guys came out hard," said Broncos associate coach Ryan Smith. "We got lots of shots... and I thought as the game went on they started to block the shots or we were looking for passes. Sawchenko was good tonight he was a difference maker for sure. We thought if we could get shots and bodies to the net good things would happen, but we sort of got away from that."

The Broncos had 14 shots in the first period and 23 by the midway portion of the game. They only managed 12 shots the rest of the way.

"That crispness wasn't there tonight," Smith said. "Their side gained it as the game went along."

Swift Current has now only scored once in their last three games and frustration may be mounting as chancse don't turn into goals.

"You start questioning and wonder what you need to do to fix it," Smith said. "I think you've got to believe in yoruself and your teammates. We believe in what we're doing and we know the guys do as well. Frustration builds as the game goes on."

Moose Jaw's Dryden Hunt scored the game's opening goal from a tough angle only a minute into the second period. Josh Brook then added one on the power play as the Warriors pulled away after a slugginsh start.

Hunt finished with a goal and two assists in the win. He has  seven points in three games against Swift Current this season.

The Broncos went 0 for 5 on the power play.

Forward Glenn Gawdin returned to Swift Current's lineup after a few weeks out with an upper body injury. It was also the debut of Lane Pederson after the Broncos added him from Red Deer in the Jake Debrust deal. He hit a post, had four good scoring chances and a couple of big hits in his debut.

Swift Current hosts Prince Albert on Tuesday.
