Former Swift Current Broncos forward Dale Weise had a big week in the spotlight.

The gritty Montreal Canadiens winger won a prestigious team award and found himself a topic on America's biggest late night show.

The Habs named him the Jacques Beauchamp-Molson Trophy winner as the member of the Canadiens who played a dominant role during the regular season without earning any particular honour. It's essentially Montreal's unsung hero award.

“It feels good. I’m extremely proud of the honour. I base my game on working hard. It’s a brand that I hope the fans and everyone else appreciates. I’m proud of myself,” Weise told the team's official website. “Hopefully, I showed that I work as hard as I can every time I’m on the ice. I know people pay a lot of money to come watch us play, and I try to work as hard as I can every night. That award shows it.”

Weise received 128 points in the media voting ahead of Brandon Prust (63 points) and Brendan Gallagher (47 points). The former New York Ranger and Vancouver Canuck hit career highs in Montreal with 10 goals and 19 assists in 78 games.

A day after earning his award Weise found himself part of a gag on NBC's The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. You can click here to see that clip from the show.

Things turn very serious now for the Habs as they wrap up their season this weekend with a game against Toronto and then turn their attention to what they hope will be a long playoff run.

Weise, a Winnipeg native, played three full seasons with the Broncos before turning pro.
