Weise

Former Swift Current Bronco Dale Weise has inked a new one-year contract with the Vancouver Canucks.

The deal allowed the sides to avoid an arbitration hearing scheduled for Friday.

It's a one-way deal reportedly worth $615,000.

The Vancouver Sun reported that Weise turned down a qualifying offer of $665,000 that would have been a two-way deal and included a minor-league salary of $85,000.

A one-way deal ensures Weise makes his NHL salary whether he plays in the NHL or not.

The Winnipeg product had 4 goals and 4 assists in 68 games with the Canucks last season after being claimed off waivers from the New York Rangers.

He played three seasons with the Broncos and recently returned to Swift Current for the WW Smith Broncos Alumni Golf Classic at Elmwood.

He told Swift Current Online at the time that the two sides were close to a deal and he was confident it would get done before arbitration.
