It's a battle of the two most recent WHL Players of the Week tonight in Moose Jaw.

Jon Martin of the Swift Current Broncos is the most recent winner, while Brayden Point of the Warriors won it the week before.

"It's a pretty big accomplishment," Martin noted. "With all the great players in the league it's a pretty big thing. It's quite the honour."

Martin has already passed his career high in goals with 11 through only 10 games this season.

He felt like an offensive breakout was possible if he got the opportunity.

"I always kind of had a thought if I got the chance and if I got my confidence up," Martin said. "The confidence was a big thing for me. Once I got it for the first time in Kootenay there I just took it and ran with it."

Martin has 15 points in 6 games with the Broncos and 7 in 3 games last week. He has enjoyed the ride in Swift Current.

"So far I have no complaints," he said. "There was a couple of games that didn't go our way as a team, but at the same time we can learn from those past mistakes."

Broncos Coach and GM Mark Lamb put Martin together with NHL drafted forwards Jake DeBrusk and Glenn Gawdin. They're all on a roll at the moment with 24 combined points over their last 4 games.

"They've unbelieveable together," Lamb said. "I really like that chemistry and I like the mix of what they can bring. That's a real heavy line with Martin on the right side who can really shoot and he's heavy, Gawdin's turning into a power forward and Jake is so nifty. Jake can get deep too."

They've got to deal with Point who is maybe the most dangerous player in the Eastern Conference. He is a point behind Martin for the WHL's points lead with 3 fewer games played. If the lines go head-to-head Swift Current's top group expects to be ready.

"He's obviously a great player," Gawdin said. "(The coaches) are going to put a system in place for us to kind of shut him down and we're going to do the best we can. If we can shut them down our second and third lines should get a good match-up."

The Warriors are off to a hot start with a 6-1-1-1 record. Swift Current is 4-5-1-0 coming off a couple of close losses on the weekend.

Our broadcast starts live on The Eagle 94.1 tonight at 6:30pm. Puck drop is just after 7:00pm from Moose Jaw.

The Broncos are then in Lethbridge on Friday and host the Warriors on Saturday
