Wildcats VS Melville

The Diamond Energy Wildcats have now won five straight games following a pair of weekend wins over Melville.

The Wildcats had five different goal scorers over the weekend as they downed the Prairie Fire 3-2 and 3-1.

Trista Labarowski, Josee Casavant, Taylor Kirwan, Kate Scidmore and Janessa Fournier all found the back of the net for Swift Current.

Wildcats' Head Coach Terry Pavely said the team's offensive depth played a major factor over the weekend.

"I think our depth was really evident this weekend. We have had some veteran kids who have been really good at scoring big goals for us and putting up big numbers, but you look at this weekend and there were a lot of different people scoring goals and registering points. I think we had goals from all four lines over the weekend," he said.

The weekend sweep was not easy by any means though for the Wildcats.

Strong goaltending from Melville allowed them to hang around in both games until the very end.

Pavely did mention as well, he was impressed with the Melville team.

"They're a pretty good hockey team, they work extremely hard and play at a high tempo. A lot of their losses so far this year have been just one goal losses so you can't take them lightly, which I don't think we did. They came out and played hard and they are a tough team to play against because they play with a lot of speed but not a lot of structure," he added.

With the weekend victories, the Wildcats moved into second place in league standings and will have a chance to creep up on first place Saskatoon this weekend, when they host the Stars for a pair of games.
