The Diamond Energy Female Midget AAA Wildcats took a page from the Bee Gees and are Stayin' Alive in their series with the Regina Rebels after a Game 3 win.

In the provincial capital Saturday afternoon, the Wildcats downed the Rebels 3-1 to trim the series to a 2-1 Regina lead in their most complete effort of the series so far.

"We were really good, we came out of the gate pretty well, we had our feet moving," said Wildcats head coach Terry Pavely. "The two things we said we needed to focus on to score some goals was to make sure that we got a lot of pucks on net, and get more traffic on net. I thought today our girls did a really good job right from the onset of throwing pucks towards the net, making sure we got pucks on net."

The Wildcats certainly followed the game plan of piling shots on goal, as they out-shot Regina 9-3 through the first 20 minutes.

The lone goal of the period came a shade over 14 minutes in when Taylor Lind took passes from Sara Kendall and Baylee Kirwan and buried the puck in the Rebels' net.

It was Lind's first point of the series, but the Wildcats' leading scorer from the regular season wasn't done there. Lind padded Swift's lead three minutes into the middle frame on an unassisted goal for a 2-0 score.

Regina trimmed the lead to just one midway through the period on a goal from Lauren Focht, but the Wildcats used their first powerplay goal of the series to extend the lead back to a pair.

On the man-advantage, Kendall put the puck past Chantel Weller in the Regina net with 4:23 left in the second. Assists came from Lind and Trista Labarowski.

The shooting onslaught continued in the second period, where the Wildcats out-blasted Regina 19-4.

The shots ended up 41-21 in favour of Swift Current, after the Rebels came back with a stronger 14-13 effort in the third period - however, no goals materialized for either team.

The Wildcats' bench boss was pleased with his team's effort down the stretch. Pavely noted that, after allowing eight combined powerplay opportunities for Regina, including three in Game 3, the team's discipline has been exactly what they've needed.

Amaya Giraudier stopped 20 of 21 shots for the W in between the pipes for Swift Current.

After accomplishing two big keys in the game plan - shot totals, and traffic in front of the net - it was a rewarding win for a Wildcats team who has been a matter of one or two bounces from being on the other side of the series lead.

"It was just good to see that the things we wanted to improve upon and the things we preached about just being a little bit better in a couple areas and we'll be successful," shared Pavely. "I've got to give our players a lot of credit - they did the things we asked, and it worked out well for us today."

After dropping the first two games of the series (3-0, 3-1) it's been a progressive combo of both effort and execution for the Wildcats, who finally found steady offensive output.

Looking to continue the improvements ahead of another must-win contest, some tweaking will occur in the team's lone practice before Game 4.

"The one area we felt we've got to be better on and we'll walk through tomorrow at practice is neutral zone face-offs," Pavely noted. "That is something we can go over and work on, but I felt we got better."

Game 4 goes Monday at 7:45 p.m. from Fairview West arena.
