The Wildcats practice at the Fairview Arenas on Tuesday afternoon

The Swift Current Diamond Energy Female Midget Wildcats will finally play at home for the first time this season, after opening the year on the road.

Head Coach Terry Pavely says five weeks on road dating back to the pre-season does take a toll, and they're excited to get back home.

"It's just not the same," he said. "You're in a bus, you're in hotel rooms... it's nice when the kids get to sleep in their own beds and kind of have more of a routine at home that's a little more normal. We're hoping it should make a difference and we should come out a little bit better than we have in the games on the road."

Pavely says although they've had a tough start to the season, they've done a lot of things right.

"We like what we're doing... we're competing hard, we're learning on the defensive side of things and we're pretty tough defensively to play against," he said. "The one thing that we've been preaching this week is we got to get traffic to the net. We haven't done a good job of that, and when you don't get traffic to the net, scoring goals in a lot difficult."

Getting traffic to the net will be one of the keys for the Wildcats as the Notre Dame Hounds come to town tonight.

"They're going to be pretty good defensively, so we have to make sure we're getting to the hard areas, and make sure we make life hard for their goaltender," Pavely added.

The Wildcats will be raising money at their home opener as part as Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The team will be sporting pink jerseys, there will be a puck toss at the first intermission, as well as pink cookies for sale that were baked by players. The Wildcats will be donating the money made from these fundraisers to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, and are encouraging all fans to wear pink to the game.

Face-off for tonight's game is at 8:00pm from the Fairview Arenas.
