The Diamond Energy Female Midget 'AAA' Wildcats used a full six point performance over the weekend to lock up second place in league standings heading into playoffs.

Playing host to the Weyburn Gold Wings for a pair of weekend games, the Wildcats came away with wins of 3-2 and 2-1.

On Friday, the Wildcats jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second period on goals by Merissa Zerr and Kayla Kirwan.

However, when it appeared Swift Current would be taking their 2-0 lead into the second intermission, Weyburn found their way onto the board with less then a second remaining in the period.

The late goal did not faze the Wildcats though as Kirwan scored her second goal of the game just over a minute into the third, restoring the two goal lead.

The score remained 3-1 until the final minute of the game.

With 30 seconds left, the Gold Wings beat Wildcats goalie Jasey Book, trimming the lead back down to one, however that was as close as they would get.

With Friday's victory, the Wildcats had clinched no worse then third place.

A regulation win in Saturday's contest would give them second, while anything less and they would stay in third.

In a low scoring game Saturday afternoon, the Wildcats got just enough offense to earn a full three points, coming away with a 2-1 win.

Trailing 1-0 late in the second period, Trista Labarowski scored her fifth goal of the season with 46 second left in the period to tie the game at the break.

In the third period with the game still knotted up at 1, Swift Current Kate Scidmore fired home a short-handed goal, giving Swift Current their first lead of the game.

The Wildcats would hold on the rest of the way to earn their second one goal win in as many days.

Swift Current will now square off with Notre Dame in their opening playoff round.

In four meetings against the Hounds this season, the Wildcats won two games, while also dropping the other two in shoot-outs.

Game one of the series will get underway Saturday evening at Fairview.
